Eddie Mardjoeki Nalapraya Passes Away

Former Jakarta Vice Governor for the 1984-1987 period, Major General (ret.) Eddie Mardjoeki Nalapraya passed away today.

Mr. Eddie is a very good person

Eddie passed away today at 9:50 AM, after receiving medical treatment at Pondok Indah Hospital, South Jakarta, at the age of 93.

The body will be buried with military honors at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery as a form of respect for his services and dedication to the nation.

Before the burial, the body was laid out at the Padepokan Pencak Silat Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta. Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung together with Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, and other public figures also came to pay the condolences.

Pramono said that he and Rano Karno visited Eddie Mardjoeki Nalapraya at his house in the Puncak Area, Bogor, West Java. The visit aimed to establish friendship while discussing the future of pencak silat.

As a national silat figure who had brought the good name of Indonesian pencak silat to the international world, Pram felt a great loss for Eddie Mardjoeki Nalapraya.

"Mr. Eddie is a very good person. His contribution to the nation, country, Jakarta, and the Betawi People were extraordinary. Pencak silat is now well-known because of his role," Pramono said, Tuesday (5/13).

Meanwhile, Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno also admitted that he felt a great loss for Eddie Mardjoeki Nalapraya as an extraordinary Betawi figure.

"He was known as a nationalist and unifier. He was able to bring Indonesian Pencak Silat to the international level olympics," Rano admitted.
